Terms of Use

The app is provided by Chamuditha Prabhath Jayasena (see the Legal Notice). These terms apply in addition to Apple’s standard End User License Agreement.

You may use CoinOptic for your own private purposes, within these terms, applicable law and the rules of the App Store.

CoinOptic identifies coins from photos, shows details from a coin catalog and manages your collection. Identifying coins is free, with a limited number of scans per day and a limited collection. Identification and values require an internet connection.

Identification works automatically, including with AI, and can be wrong, especially in poor light, with worn coins or with very similar issues. Check the country, face value, year and mint mark before you rely on a result. CoinOptic does not check whether a coin is genuine and does not confirm minting errors.

Values are ranges per condition and are based on market data. They are an estimate, not a guarantee, not an appraisal, not an offer to buy and not investment or financial advice. If a range is based on current listings rather than sales, it is labeled as such. Asking prices are usually higher than the prices actually achieved.

The bullion value is the pure material value at the current price and not the collector value. The condition of your coin cannot be determined reliably from a photo. Have valuable coins assessed by an expert before buying, selling or insuring them.

CoinOptic Pro is a subscription with a weekly or yearly term. Before you buy, the App Store shows you the price, the term and any free trial in your currency. Payment is processed through your Apple Account.

A subscription renews automatically for the same term at the same price unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before it expires. A free trial turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel in time before it ends. You manage and cancel subscriptions in your iPhone’s Settings under your name → Subscriptions.

Your contracting party for the purchase is Apple. Apple’s terms apply to withdrawal and refunds. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Your statutory rights as a consumer remain unaffected.

Your photos and the details in your collection remain yours. You grant us a non-exclusive right to store and process photos, selections and feedback in order to operate the app and to check and improve identification. Details and deletion periods are set out in the Privacy Policy. Only upload photos you hold the necessary rights to.

You may not scrape, bulk download or resell the catalog and value data, circumvent scan limits or subscriptions, send automated or abusive requests, or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it. If you breach these rules, we may restrict or block your access.

CoinOptic is an independent app and is not affiliated with the European Central Bank, the Deutsche Bundesbank, any mint or eBay. Anything you buy on eBay or another site is a transaction between you and the respective seller.

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act.

For slight negligence we are liable only if an essential contractual obligation is breached, and then only up to the damage typically foreseeable for this type of contract. Within this framework, we accept no liability for decisions to buy, sell or trade that you make based on an identification or a value.

We may change, extend or discontinue features where this is technically or legally necessary. If we change these terms, the new version applies to further use of the app from the time it is published. The date at the top shows the last change.
