How the PFT is scored

Three events, up to 300 points.

Both the PFT and CFT are made of three events, each worth up to 100 points. Your total decides your class, and every event has a minimum you must clear.

  • 100 points at the maximum performance for your age group and gender
  • 40 points at the minimum passing performance
  • A proportional (linear) score for everything in between
  • Any event below its minimum fails the whole test

ClassTotal score
1st Class235 – 300
2nd Class200 – 234
3rd Class150 – 199
FailBelow 150, or any event below its minimum

You must reach at least a 3rd-class total and clear every individual event minimum to pass.

Combat-arms requirements

Marines in combat-arms occupational fields carry a higher fitness expectation that reflects the physical demands of those roles. In practice that means a higher passing floor and, for some events, tougher event minimums than the general population standard.

Because occupational requirements change, confirm the current combat-arms floor and event minimums in the governing order and the latest MARADMIN before you rely on a number for records. The calculator above reports the standard PFT or CFT class and does not apply a separate occupational override.

PFT events

The Physical Fitness Test

Upper body — pull-ups or push-ups

Choose dead-hang pull-ups or push-ups. Pull-ups can score the full 100 points; push-ups are capped at 70 points, so most competitive Marines choose pull-ups.

Plank

A timed forearm plank replaced crunches. The standard is the same for every Marine regardless of age or gender: 40 points at 1:10 and a perfect 100 points at 3:45.

3-mile run

A timed three-mile run. Maximum and minimum times scale by age group and gender; hitting the max time earns 100 points and the slowest passing time earns 40.

CFT events

The Combat Fitness Test

Movement to Contact (MTC)

An 880-yard timed sprint in boots and utilities that simulates moving under load toward an objective. Lower times score higher.

Ammo Can Lifts (ACL)

Maximum number of 30-lb ammo can presses overhead in two minutes. More reps score higher.

Maneuver Under Fire (MANUF)

A timed obstacle course combining a buddy drag and carry, ammo resupply, grenade throw and agility movements. Lower times score higher.

Altitude rules

Thinner air at elevation slows aerobic performance, so the Marine Corps adds time allowances to the 3-mile run, movement to contact and maneuver under fire when a test is conducted at or above a designated altitude. The higher the elevation band, the larger the time addition. Use the official altitude tables in the current order for the exact seconds added at your test site — the calculator above scores sea-level performance.

Guide

Using a USMC PFT calculator in 2026

A USMC PFT calculator turns raw reps and times into a Marine Corps score you can actually plan around. Instead of digging through the scoring tables in MCO 6100.13A for every age group and gender, you enter your pull-ups or push-ups, plank time and 3-mile run, and the calculator returns each event score, your total out of 300 and your class.

For 2026 the test is still built on the three-event PFT and the three-event CFT. Pull-ups remain the way to reach a perfect upper-body score, push-ups stay capped at 70 points, and the plank is scored on a single standard for every Marine. The 3-mile run, movement to contact and maneuver under fire scale by age and gender, and pick up altitude time allowances when you test at elevation.

The fastest way to use this USMC PFT calculator for 2026 is to score your current numbers first, then work backwards: nudge a single event up and watch how many points it adds. That tells you whether another pull-up, thirty seconds of plank, or twenty seconds off your run buys you the most — and how close you are to the next class.

Treat the output as a training reference, not an official record. Scores here use published thresholds and linear interpolation; the authoritative numbers always come from the current Marine Corps Order and MARADMIN.

Frequently asked questions

Is this USMC PFT calculator accurate for 2026?

The calculator uses the Marine Corps three-event PFT scoring model (upper body, plank, 3-mile run) and CFT model (movement to contact, ammo can lifts, maneuver under fire) with the official published performance thresholds and proportional score rounding. Always confirm an official result against the current order and scoring tables.

How is the PFT scored?

Each of the three PFT events is worth up to 100 points for a maximum of 300. You earn 100 points at the maximum performance for your age and gender, 40 points at the minimum passing performance, and a proportional score in between. Any event below its minimum is a failure regardless of total.

What are the PFT class score ranges?

A total of 235–300 is 1st Class, 200–234 is 2nd Class, and 150–199 is 3rd Class. Below 150, or failing any single event minimum, is a failing PFT.

Do push-ups or pull-ups score better?

Pull-ups can earn the full 100 points, while push-ups are capped at 70 points. If you can do enough pull-ups to beat a maxed-out push-up score, pull-ups are the stronger choice.

What is the combat-arms standard?

Marines in combat-arms occupational fields are held to a higher fitness expectation reflecting the physical demands of those roles. Confirm the current combat-arms passing floor and any occupational requirements in the governing MCO and MARADMIN before relying on a number.

How does altitude affect the run and CFT?

The Marine Corps applies time adjustments for the 3-mile run, movement to contact and maneuver under fire when the test is conducted at or above a designated altitude, because thinner air slows aerobic events. Check the current altitude tables in the order for the exact time additions at your elevation.

Is the calculator free and does it work offline?

Yes. The web calculator is free to use, and the companion iOS and Android app stores your profile, calculations and score history locally so it works offline with no account required.
