Movement to Contact (MTC)
An 880-yard sprint in boots and utilities, the "880" in CFT slang. It is timed, so faster scores higher. A male Marine aged 21 to 25 needs 3:45 to pass and 2:38 for the full 100 points.

The three CFT events
The CFT is built around the short, heavy, repeated efforts of combat, done in boots and utilities rather than running gear. Each event is worth up to 100 points.

Press a 30 lb ammo can from shoulder height to full lockout overhead as many times as you can in two minutes. A male Marine aged 21 to 25 needs 67 lifts to pass and 115 for 100 points; a female Marine the same age needs 30 and 74.
A timed shuttle course that strings together crawls, a buddy drag and fireman's carry, an ammo can carry, a dummy grenade throw and push-ups. A male Marine aged 21 to 25 needs 3:18 to pass and 2:04 for 100 points.

Each cell shows the minimum passing performance (40 points) and the performance for the maximum (100 points) by age group. Times are minutes:seconds and lower is better; ammo can lifts are reps in two minutes.

Training targets
A 1st class CFT is 235 points or more. Scoring 79 on every event gets you there with a little room to spare, so these are the slowest times and fewest lifts that still earn 79 points. A stronger event lets you ease off another, and the calculator above shows exactly how much.

The PFT runs in the first half of the year with pull-ups or push-ups, a plank and a 3-mile run. Score it, and see the full PFT score chart, on the USMC PFT calculator.
Open the USMC PFT calculatorEach of the three CFT events, movement to contact, ammo can lifts and maneuver under fire, is scored from 0 to 100 points for a maximum of 300. The minimum passing performance for your age group and gender earns 40 points, the maximum earns 100, and anything in between is scored proportionally. Missing the minimum on any single event fails the CFT regardless of your total.
The CFT uses the same class bands as the PFT: 235 to 300 is 1st Class, 200 to 234 is 2nd Class and 150 to 199 is 3rd Class. Averaging 79 points per event puts you in 1st Class. For a male Marine aged 21 to 25 that is roughly a 3:02 movement to contact, 98 ammo can lifts and a 2:30 maneuver under fire.
The movement to contact is the 880-yard run. Maximum points for a male Marine aged 21 to 25 come at 2:38, and the slowest passing time is 3:45. For a female Marine of the same age the range is 3:13 to 4:41. Find your own age group in the CFT score chart on this page.
Yes. All three CFT events have separate minimum and maximum standards for eight age groups, 17 to 20 through 51 and over, and for male and female Marines. Older age groups get slower time standards and fewer required lifts.
Under MCO 6100.13A the PFT is run in the first half of the calendar year and the CFT in the second half, so most Marines take one of each annually. Confirm your unit's testing window with your command, because deployments and MARADMIN updates can change the schedule.
The PFT measures general fitness with pull-ups or push-ups, a plank and a 3-mile run. The CFT measures combat-related fitness with short, intense events done in boots and utilities: the 880-yard movement to contact, ammo can lifts and the maneuver under fire course. Both are scored out of 300 and use the same class bands.
